Friday Shoot Out--Sounds in your Town

This particular shoot-out comes from a great blogger, Nanu at http://sciencegirltraveler.blogspot.com/.  I found this one challenging and ended up dipping into my archive.  After I read what she wrote about the blindfold idea, I wished I had done that!  Read it too late.  But I definitely will try that some day!

From my archive, I chose some of my favorite sounds and pictures that represent them.  Of course, I love the sound of the cat meowing.  I guess that is where the phrase "the cat's meow" originated.  The gray and white one, Magnum, likes to go into the living room in the middle of the night and meow as loud as he can.  Winston sometimes mouthes a meow as if he does not have enough energy to get out the sound.  And, what is better than a purring cat!

This favorite sound is probably shared by many people.  The sound of water is varied and amazingly beautiful.  I love the sounds of a fountain, the soft sweet song as the droplets hit the surface.  Then, the sound of waves crashing is a wonderful dichotomy in its combination of powerful and gentle rhythms.  As soon as I hear the ocean, I immediately feel more relaxed.

This picture was taken on my patio.  There are a lot of sounds that I love represented here.  First, the sound of the birds in the morning.  Of course, dry leaves rustling.  Then, the sound of wind chimes.  Wow, after writing this post, it made me realize there are some really beautiful sounds in the world!   Thanks, Nanu, for opening my eyes to wonderful sounds!

  2. I too like the bird song and wind chimes but I often tie my chimes up to give the neighbours some peace! I think the sound of water is going to be the overall favourite when everyone has blogged.

  3. Great shootout, Lena!
I looked all through my archives for a catmeowing shot, and didn't find any or I would have posted one too. And the sound of surf is always a favorite - I wish I lived be the sea and could hear it all the time.

  4. Cats meowing! Absolutely! We think they are so cute with little mews...but we also have a cat that can wake up the whole neighborhood in the middle of the night with his MEOW!

  6. How cool, I miss my patio in my old house where I had chimes and bird feeders that brought lots of noise to my quiet world on day offs...

  9. I like these meowing pics (reminds me of that cat food commercial for Meow Mix!) Our cat has a loud obnoxious meow and no purr whatsoever; guess I better get busy and try to get a picture of his meow. Or maybe I'll just look at yours.

  10. There is nothing more soothing to me than listening to my cat purr as she snuggles up to my neck at night, and the crash of ocean waves, along with the smell of sea air never fails to reinvigorate my weary mind, body and soul!

  12. lovely post! Your cats have a lot of personality! I could just hear them meowing, and you are right, there isn't anything else like the purring of a cat. :)

  13. Our last cat was Punky Brewster, who wasn't much into cuddling or purring, but when he was in the mood, there were few things as relaxing as the purring of a cat.

Thanks for reviving some good memories.
