Friday Shoot Out: Classics of Childhood

Picasso said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." This assignment reminded me of this quote. So thanks to Ellisa at http://ellisaathousandwords.blogspot.com/ for this assignment.

I had to include a couple of pictures from a playground near where I live. I have many happy memories of swinging on a swing or going down a slide. If adults played more, we would all have a lot less stress!

I also had to include a picture from the beach. This summer, being there with M, John's daughter, I watched her play in the sand and then started playing in the sand myself. The feeling of the sand through my fingers, the sensation of wet, cool sand on a hot day, and the act of mounding up sand and digging holes just because there is so much sand!!!!
Another memory I have from childhood is how I loved collecting pine cones. I do not remember why I liked it or what I did with the pine cones. Just thought they were cool and liked collecting them.

John and M share a birthday so I have a picture of their gifts. What's greater in childhood than birthday gifts!!

Finally, I included a picture taken at the Smithsonian of Dorothy's shoes. Who doesn't have memories of watching Wizard of OZ? It is in our collective unconscious and is definitely an American archetype.

Hope you all enjoy and have a child-like day!!

  4. I remember the Christmas my youngest daughter decided she wanted a pair of Dorothy slippers, only she wanted silver ones like in the book, not ruby like the movie.

Do you think we could find a pair that Christmas in Toronto? We finally spray painted a black pair and covered them in glitter--which fell out all over the floor everytime she walked.

  8. I love to swing still. It's my favorite part of the day...when I get to take students outside to the playground and swing with them. :)

Thanks for playing this week ♥

  9. Your pictures brought back alot of childhood memories for me, like the pinecones which i always loved to collect and no matter where I go today I still pick them up. The beach is of course a big memory for me, I still MISS the Jersey shore!! And that slide and climbing set, I remember one JUST like it at the little playground in the park near our home. I loved climbing to the top so that i could get a better view. I guess I was always wanting to see more then what was right in front of me!! I still do! Great shots, Lena. And thanks for your recent comment on my post. How is weather in NJ right now? warmly, Debby
