Friday Shoot Out: Circles

I loved this week's FSO assignment.  The idea of circles came from Kerry at http://eddyandreuben.blogspot.com/.  What I loved about it is that I have always thought of the circle as a sacred shape.  It ends where it begins and the center can be intersected an infinite number of times.  Also, it is perfectly symmetrical.  It is the basic shape of the mandala.  Mandalas are these beautiful spiritual designs and I talk about them more in my posts http://spiritsoflena.blogspot.com/2009/02/soul-of-whole.html and http://spiritsoflena.blogspot.com/2009/06/mandala-mania.html

The above picture is from my archive taken in Washington DC at one of the Smithsonian museums.  The rest of the shots were taken this week, but I included this one since it fit the assignment so well.

I took this picture of a somewhat circular patch of snow in anticipation of the huge Noreaster that is supposed to hit NJ tomorrow afternoon.  Some are saying 9 inches, some are saying 2 feet--we shall see!

This is a railroad crossing sign near my house.
I take Tuckahoe Road to work every morning.  They have been doing some sort of construction on the road involving cutting down trees, and the trunks on the ground made interesting circles.
These last three shots were taken on my balcony.  These are my windchimes.  I obviously love celestial designs!  They all happen to be somewhat circular, which again is another reason I love the circle!

I hope you enjoyed!

  2. What wonderful circles. Love your windchimes!!
The picture of the railroad crossing sign is quite interesting, it almost looks like something you'd find on an indie album cover.

  3. There is something sacred about the circle and I think it shows up that way in many different cultures. It's one of the few geometric shapes that is commonly found in nature. Your shot from the Smithsonian is wonderful, and I found the eerie rr crossing photo to be quite mysterious. I'm so glad you enjoyed this theme!

  4. Cool cool cool views of roundness over here! I know what you mean about the snow...as it melts somewhat evenly it does resemble a circle!

  5. The sacred aspect did not even dawn on me - maybe I'm slower than usual this week. I love that first shot. And your wind chimes!

  6. The windchimes would have also been good when we did "Sounds" ... when the wind blows you must be surROUNDed by music.

  7. There is something sacred and (as Mark pointed out in his blog) very feminine about the circle. I loved the variety of subject matter in your post. Truly circles are everywhere, if we just know how to look.

  9. ou reminded me of the Smithsonian museums. 16 years ago, my husband went for a Conference from Singapore. We went as a family and had a great time at the Smithsonian museums.
